My exploration of creating art with digital wall paint, graffiti and collected images began with a focus on the round symbol. The concept was born in Arequipa, Peru after I became intrigued with the eroding paint from the walls of historic buildings. These naturally occurring designs were reminiscent of the Abstract Expressionist paintings of the mid twentieth century and something I wanted to document. My fascination with weathered paint ultimately grew to included random graffiti and wall art.
The round shape is ideal for integrating repeated form with color to create pattern and texture. The center offers a natural position to incorporate a primary image. Essentially, I am trying to capture the spirit of place with visual elements collected on its streets.
